Garmsar region<br \/><\/strong><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Authors:M. Yamini Fard<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Garmsar city is located 100 km southeast of Tehran metropolis on the border of two Seismotectonic provinces of Central Alborz and Central Iran. At present, tectonic activity of the Alborz Mountain range in northern Iran is summarized to two movements, one convergence of Central Iran and Eurasia and the other, clockwise rotation of the South Caspian Basin relative to Eurasia, which caused a left lateral turning in this region. <br \/> In this study we analyzed recorded waveform by a local seismic temporary dense network, including 15 short-period stations which was installed in October, November and December 2006 in the region, in addition of data from another local temporary dense seismic network covering Mosha fault in the same period, and available permanent seismic stations of the Iranian Broadband Seismic Network (BIN) belong to International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology, short period seismic network of the Institute of Geophysics of University of Tehran (IRSC), and seismic network of Tehran Disaster Mitigation and Management Organization (THM) to increase the data quality. Broadband data from BIN network used to calculate the focal mechanism for some selected events based on moment tensor solution. We also relocated local earthquakes recorded by IRSC since 2006. Computed focal mechanisms were divided into two groups: those computed using the polarity of the first arrival phases, and those calculated based on moment tensor solution. <br \/> The results of this study show that the central and western parts of the Garmsar fault are seismically more active. Most of the recorded microearthquakes are located in north of the Gramsar fault indicating on North ward probable dip of this fault.  Three focal mechanisms obtained in the central part of the fault reveal the compressional movements of the Garmsar fault. The perpendicular cross section on the North Semnan fault beside the only moment tensor solution obtained for one of the earthquake related to the activity of this fault, reveal the high angle dip of the fault toward North and its compressional  mechanism with slightly left-lateral strike-slip component. Fault plane solutions of the earthquakes related to the Firuzkuh fault indicate on left-lateral strike-slip motion.
