performance-based design method, which is newly presented for RC buildings. Among different performance-based design methods recently proposed, a few methods are suitable as a standard method for implementation in new modern design codes. This report pays attention to the direct displacement-based design (DDBD) method, which is presented by Priestely in 2003 for regular and flexible RC buildings, versus conventional forced-based design method (Iranian Code of Practice, Standard-2800, the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> version). This research tries to recognize reliability and success of the two mentioned design approaches to meet the similar predefined desired performances during various levels of strong ground earthquakes. Using each design method four 2-D RC buildings with 4, 8, 12, 16 stories are designed. Two 7-record groups with compatible spectra with design spectrum of the buildings are generated: (1) artificial records using SIMQKE I, (2) real records using a new proposed method. Then, using OpenSees software nonlinear dynamic time history analyses are performed. Averaged response of each group of records for each building is determined. Finally, the results are compared and discussed in detail.
