Dashte Kavir Earthquake of 22 July 1927, Mw.6.3
At the night of 22 July 1927, an earthquake with magnitude of Mw=6.3 hit the north-central Iran and was felt within an area of 280,000 km2. The earthquake did not have casualties but it was very strong in the Khar area where the event caused damages. Due to this earthquake, several houses were destroyed in Aradan. In Semnan, the minaret of the central mosque and an old tower were destroyed. In Eivanekey, one of the towers of its castle cracked. In Firoozkooh, several houses cracked and in Yazd, water poured out as a result of the turbulence of ponds. The earthquakes was felt in Isfahan, Khansar, Kashan, Tehran, Sangsar, Behshahr, Bandar Gaz, Damghan, Torud, Khor and Yazd. It is difficult to find the macroseismic epicenter of the earthquake, which must be traced in the desert. Following the earthquake, a number of strong aftershocks were felt in a wide area.
