IIEES in close collaboration with National Disaster management Org., Red Crescent Society, Student’s Organization and IRIB has organized the 17th National Earthquake and Safety Drill in Schools on November 29, 2015. The main theme of the drill was Safe Schools – Resilient Communities and besides of the students, the residents of neighboring communities were also participated in the drill. Representatives from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, as well as UNESCO and UNDP were also participated in the drill as observers to evaluate if the drill can be implemented regionally next years.
The drill was started at 9:30 am after earthquake siren was broadcasted by the national Iranian radio. After that, the students and residents of local communities have conducted the DROP procedure (Duch, cover and hold) and then evacuated from the classrooms/houses to the schools yard, as local DM base. Other exercises including sheltering, distribution of emergency supplies, rescue and relief, etc. were also practiced during the drill.
